Backflip Aims to Replace Email for Sharing Web Pages
Show & Tell Turns Web Page Sharing into Knowledge-Building
SAN FRANCISCO, March 29, 2000 -- Backflip, Inc. (www.backflip.com), a Web service that allows users to easily create their own personal Yahoo-style searchable directory of favorite Web pages, today announced Show and Tell, a breakthrough way for people to share and discuss their Web wisdom with family, friends and co-workers.
Backflip's Show & Tell feature lets people share Web pages automatically results in a lasting collection of searchable Web pages. This new feature answers the problem of losing emails containing URLs.
"The number one way people discover Web pages besides search engines, is through emails from co-workers and friends," said Tim Hickman, Co-Founder and CEO of Backflip, Inc. "Unlike emails, which are hard to find again when you need them, Show & Tell allows web pages to be collected and searchable, eliminating the hassle and frustration of losing things."
Backflip members can share any folder with friends simply by typing in their email addresses. Any time a new Web page is added to that folder, the specified users are automatically notified so the sharing is dynamic and ongoing.
Once someone is invited to share a member's Backflip folder, they can also search and collaboratively add and make comments to all the pages within the folder.
"I'm in a book club, and in between meetings the group sends emails back and forth constantly with URLs related to authors, or about a book we should read next. In the past it's been very difficult to keep track of it all and actually get something out of it," said Backflip user, Debra Kelly. "I've found that using these Backflip Show & Tell folders is the best way to share and organize this information. I especially like the fact that we can post comments and insights right into the folder - these can be discussion points at our meetings."
More than just sharing links, Backflip Show & Tell lets people collaboratively build and share valuable, organized collections of Web wisdom about topics they care most about. These collections contain organized, searchable web pages and the comments that make these pages valuable for new and mature Web users.
