Backflip Acquires MyBookmarks
Angelfire Founder Sells Latest Venture - Adding AOL and Wireless Access to Web Personalization Leader
SAN FRANCISCO, April 20, 2000 -- Backflip Inc. (www.backflip.com), a leading Web service allowing users to easily create their own personal Yahoo-style searchable directory of favorite Web pages, today announced their acquisition of MyBookmarks. This acquisition will soon make Backflip's current services available to America Online users as well as open the nascent wireless market to Backflip.
"Backflip's acquisition of MyBookmarks brings together two teams of proven innovators in the Web personalization space," said Tim Hickman, co-founder and CEO of Backflip. "AOL accessibility and wireless technology will bring the benefits of Backflip to a much broader audience."
The marriage between Backflip and MyBookmarks will allow Backflip access to the more than 20 million AOL members as well as bring into the Backflip team Ron Neuenberger, the founder of Angelfire, now a Lycos property and currently the 8th most-visited Web site on the Internet.
Neuenberger and MyBookmarks co-founder, Brian Adams and their team have joined Backflip to oversee the integration of the sites and help further develop Backflip's services. The MyBookmarks acquisition will also bring a host of other features that will enhance the Backflip experience.
"After being approached by a major portal and several other Internet companies," said Neuenberger, "we chose Backflip because of their vision for the company and leadership in the industry. We are excited and confident about joining forces with Backflip."
